Our team has extensive experience in all aspects of construction projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and so much more. From pre-construction planning to project completion, we take pride in delivering projects on time and under budget. We strive to ensure that our clients are satisfied with the results of our work and look forward to continuing to serve them in the future.

Merritt Sixbey

PRESIDENT/CEO

The President and Project Principal, Merritt, has vast experience in Land Development, City Planning, and Storm Water. He grew up in the construction industry and has held his General Contractor’s license for more than forty years. Merritt is highly qualified in excavation, steel work, parking structures, and custom homes, as well as industrial and commercial construction and commercial tenant finishes. He has overseen numerous projects for the State of Colorado, Mesa County, the City of Grand Junction, the City of Fruita, and MCVD 51. He is involved in every project that Merritt & Associates is awarded. Merritt works closely with the City Planning Departments, Mesa County Building Department, and various government agencies. Merritt is the former president of the Western Colorado Contractors Association. He is passionate about helping the community and industry with his progressive thinking. His leadership has aided in developing the organization’s strong commitment to teamwork.

Brian Holton

Brian Holton

VICE PRESIDENT/SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Brian is the company’s Vice President and Senior Project Manager. In 2008, he and Merritt formed Merritt & Associates G.C., Inc. Brian began working for Merritt Construction part-time in 1998 while in high school and is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of excavation. Brian went through the WCCA apprenticeship program, completed Metal Building Design School, and is the Fire Line License Holder for Merritt & Associates G.C., Inc. Brian has worked with Mesa County and the City of Grand Junction on special projects, and he heads our Excavation and Storm Water Divisions. He is currently the Project Manager for all of our construction projects. Brian is an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. He consistently works hard to ensure that projects are completed within budget and on time. He is also highly respected by his peers and employees for his leadership abilities and dedication to the company’s mission.

Mark Meiners

Mark Meiners

SAFETY COORDINATOR/SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

Mark is our Safety Coordinator and Senior Superintendent. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and has been with Merritt & Associates since 2013. Prior to working as our official Safety Coordinator, Mark worked for Rockwater as a Safety Director and Instructor. He is a certified welder and has completed large-scale housing projects, as well as commercial builds and remodels. He is certified through the American General Contractors Association and is the Senior Superintendent for extensive remodels that have been done for the VA Hospital, CMU, dental offices, coffee shops, fast-food restaurants, mercantile stores, and many other local businesses in the community. He has a knack for identifying potential risks, developing creative solutions, and developing strategies to mitigate those risks. He is an excellent communicator and team player who always puts safety first. He is highly organized and thrives in complex problem-solving situations. With his expertise, he is able to help our team make the most of our resources while ensuring that we remain safe and compliant.

PROJECT MANAGER/ESTIMATOR

Gregg has been a Project Manager and Estimator for Merritt & Associates since 2008, but he has maintained a close friendship with Merritt and Brian for over 30 years. Gregg brings over 45 years of construction experience to projects in Colorado, Arizona, California, and Nevada, ranging from $250,000.00 to $100,000,00.00. Projects ranged from food service facilities, educational facilities, commercial facilities, ski area development, and award-winning high-end residential projects. Gregg & Merritt’s combined experience in the construction industry gives them the ability to solve complicated issues and budget problems in innovative ways. Gregg has worked on many local projects for District 51, Mesa County, Western Slope Automotive, Strive, and the City of Grand Junction, making him an invaluable asset to our team.

Stuart Reed

ESTIMATOR

Stuart Reed, our Estimator, collaborates closely with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to craft comprehensive project proposals, minimizing the need for change orders. A Western Slope native and US Naval Veteran, Stuart began his construction career with Structural Preservation Systems in Baltimore, Maryland, working on high-profile projects like the Watergate South Building and the National Theater in Washington DC. Certified in various construction techniques, including slab jacking, pressure grouting, and soil stabilization, Stuart returned to Grand Junction in 1995. With a CDL-A License since 1996, he became an Estimator/Project Manager in 1999, contributing his wealth of experience to thousands of residential, commercial, and governmental projects. Stuart's meticulous communication with subcontractors and strategic material procurement ensures optimal cost savings for your project.

Dinan Sheffield

Controller

Dinan Sheffield, our Controller at Merritt & Associates, whose financial expertise spans 11 years, with 6 dedicated to construction office management. Responsible for billing, receivables, payables, HR documentation, collections, and supporting Merritt and Brian, Dinan plays a pivotal role in our financial operations. Beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, she excels in preparing meticulous financials for our accountants. Currently on the verge of completing her bachelor's degree in accounting, slated for graduation in May 2025, Dinan's commitment to ongoing education aligns with her dedication to maintaining financial transparency. Outside of the numbers, she finds joy in gardening, tending to her chickens, and savoring family moments, showcasing her well-rounded approach to both work and life. Dinan's multifaceted skills and unwavering commitment make her an indispensable asset to the Merritt & Associates team.

PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR/ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Brandon Holton, our Project Administrator and Assistant Controller, seamlessly bridges the office and project management domains at Merritt & Associates. With roles ranging from creating and distributing subcontracts to ensuring clear communication with customers and subcontractors, Brandon plays a crucial part in the smooth operation of the office. As Assistant Controller, he contributes to financial oversight, managing payroll, invoice entries, and meticulous document filing. Brandon's extensive experience, spanning roles as a laborer and office staff since the age of 14, showcases his dedication and versatile skill set. A graduate of Fruita Monument High School in 2023 and currently attending Colorado Mesa University, Brandon blends practical experience with ongoing education, making him an integral part of our dynamic team.

MARKETING EXECUTIVE

Keala’ulu’wehi is our Senior Marketing Executive and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. She has a classical marketing background, as well as modern marketing training. She is a Social Media Marketing Certified expert and has vast experience as a website designer and social media management specialist. With years of experience in these areas, she has developed an extensive portfolio of successful projects that use innovative strategies and design techniques to meet clients’ goals. She is the owner of Hoku Marketing & Design, offering services such as web design, content strategy, SEO optimization, social media marketing and management, and more. With her expertise in digital marketing and her understanding of the latest trends, she can create campaigns tailored to our target audience, enabling us to stay up to date with the industry’s latest trends while also maintaining a deep understanding of traditional methods.
